Established in 1857, the America's Cup, a friendly
contest between foreign countries, is considered to be the most
prestigious sailing race in the world.
Each year qualifying races take place and only the winner is entitled
to challenge the winner from the preceding year. The 2003 final
took place in New Zealand and will be held in Europe next year
for the first time in 152 years; the defenders, the Swiss Team
Alinghi, was the first European team to win the trophy.

Audemars Piguet had chosen to sponsor this team, in line
with its own taste for the extreme.
Conceived to resist to the most extreme conditions, the
watch is of course waterproof up to 100 meters but is most
of all notable for the materials featured:
-
case and bracelet are in titanium,
frequently used in diving outfits because of its resistance
to corrosion
-
bezel in platinium, a precious metal
that is more resistant than gold and ensures great strength
-
figures and hands offer excellent visibility
in darkness and under water.

In addition to the date indicator and the 40-hour
power reserve allowing you to see when the watch needs to be wound,
the Alinghi also features a second time-zone indicator on the
dial. Last but not least, it is a limited edition of 1000 pieces.
